Be Very Very Quiet, I’m Hunting Panda!

Hello good people!

Welcome to Friday! It looks like it’s going to be a pretty nice one here in downtown Chicago. The weather’s turning warm, the week is over, and the girlfriend and I are going out for some amazing pulled pork nachos and beer later tonight.

Quick Announcement, the php spinning eBook is now done. I’ve proofread it (ha, well I glanced it over and fixed the most glaring typos), packaged it up into a handy pdf file, and it’s ready to go. Now I just need to put it online and package it up with all the example files and templates that come with it, which I’ll do over the weekend, then write up a little spiel explaining what it is and how to get the most out of it.

It should be ready on Tuesday (Easter’s in there, things always seem to get pushed back during holidays). It came out at 60 pages long, all told, which I think is just about the right size for an ebook because it’s long enough to give you the meat of what you need to learn, but short enough that you can read it in a couple sittings. I’m excited about it, I think you’ll find it really useful!

Panda’s On Parade

So Google Announce earlier this week another massive overhaul of tweaks. They like to tweak over there at Google – have you noticed?

They announced 50 small (and not so small) changes, all across Google. And of course, one of those changes was a refresh to the Panda do-hicky.

How Did You Make Out?

Did you notice any changes to your site traffic? They rolled it out right around the beginning of the Month of April.

Like I said, there are 50 changes, most of them won’t really effect us. Things like changes to how autocomplete works, and adding a widget to the search results that gives Live results for UEFA Champions League soccer matches.

You can read about all of the changes right from the horses mouth here

Of course the only one we REALLY care about is the Panda update, code named “mm” (as if ‘Panda’ wasn’t stupid enough, they’ve got a code name for the code name now!).

Here’s what Google had to say about it:

High-quality sites algorithm data update and freshness improvements. [launch codename “mm”, project codename “Panda”] Like many of the changes we make, aspects of our high-quality sites algorithm depend on processing that’s done offline and pushed on a periodic cycle. In the past month, we’ve pushed updated data for “Panda,” as we mentioned in a recent tweet. We’ve also made improvements to keep our database fresher overall.

Well…I don’t know. I’m sick and tired of jumping every time Google tells me to, which is why I’m diversifying my strategy away from them. It’s crystal clear to me now that they’ve completely thrown out the “do no evil” motto and are now just shilling for cash in any desperate way they can.

Plus, I’m really tired of bashing on them, it’s too nice outside to be worried about so much negative junk. Am I right? I guess there’s nothing left to do but…

Keep on building!
