Adsense Earnings Anomalies

Hello good people!

Wow what a beautiful day today here in Chicago! Bright sunny, mid 70’s with a cool breeze…it doesn’t get much better than this! It’s a welcome change from the miserable heat we had over the weekend, I’ll tell you that!

Today I’m taking a step back from the portal series to write about something adsense related that’s kind of interesting to me.

Adsense Anomalies

A couple of days ago I noticed something strange in my daily adsense earnings report. Two of my websites were showing strange vaulted earnings.

One site was a website about extension cords, and the other was about rotary tools. Sexy I know…

The rotary tools website had 9 pageviews and 2 clicks…resulting in $4.25 worth of earnings (Over $2 a click!). The extension cord website had 6 pageviews and 2 clicks resulting in….wait for it….$17.27 of earnings!

What the what?

$2 clicks happen every once in a while…on average I usually see between $.40 cents and $.50 cents a click. But $17 for 2 clicks?! That’s what I call an anomaly! I have no way of knowing, but I bet it was one click for like .50 cents and one click for like $16.75 or something like that.

Why in the world would any advertiser ever pay over $15 for a single click…especially for something like an extension cord?! I bought a heavy duty outdoor extension cord a couple weeks ago and it cost me less than $10 bucks!

Who knows. Google also often shows ads based on browser history, so maybe this person didn’t click on an extension cord ad at all, but something else entirely. We’ll never know.

I tend to think it’s because someone new is trying their hand at pay per click advertising and doesn’t understand what they’re doing, possibly clicking a wrong button somewhere or something when buying their ad space. Whatever.

What’s The Point?

The point is, every so often you get these sort of nice little surprises. You can’t count on them, but when you own a broad range of websites, it’ll happen sooner or later.

And when it does, it’s really nice.

Stay tuned, in the next couple of days I’ll have a major announcement that you aren’t going to want to miss. Hint, a special members only area is coming soon… will you join me and become a Marketing Fool too?

Keep on building!
