Google Profits Surge

By: John Elder posted in Adsense

Hello good people!

Well, it’s Monday. The weather turned cold again here in Chicago and I’m starting to admit to myself that winter really is right around the corner. Winter in Chicago is GREAT…for about a month…it’s the other 5 months of winter that really drag on and on and on…luckily we aren’t quite there yet!

Today I want to talk about something that’s probably a little on the boring side for most people….Google Corporate profits. Yay!

Last Thursday Google announced its quarterly results to Wall Street. The numbers were good…really good. Revenues came in at about $9.7 billion dollars for the quarter (remember, there’s 4 quarters in a year!), and profits were at a nice $2.7 billion.

Oh, and they’re also sitting on about $42.5 billion dollars in CASH. Holy Ballpoint Banana Batman!

Why do we care about this?

Well, if you make a large chunk of your income from Adsense, it’s a good idea to keep track of how well Google’s doing financially. What effects them effects you directly.

What can we take away from these numbers? Analysts had predicted less profit, meaning Google did better than expected. Which I suppose is good. Revenues were up 33% and profits were up 26%.

Google generally doesn’t break down those numbers to tell us exactly where that income comes from (surprise surprise!), but they did say that $2.5 billion of that revenue came (or will come?) from mobile searches.

Aha! Something we can use!

Mobile searches? So what! I’ll tell you what! It means that if you aren’t building your websites to have a mobile version, you might be missing out on some serious income!

I’ll admit, I don’t optimize my sites for mobile…there’s too much low hanging fruit out there to bother…but then again, since all my sites got clobbered by the Panda update, and Google themselves announced that mobile is raking in the cash…maybe it’s time to start looking into creating mobile ready sites.

It’s something to keep in mind at least.

They also announced that Google + now has 40 million users…though I don’t really care about that.

Ok, I’m with you here…

You don’t really care about any of this, do you? Yeah…me neither. But it’s Monday and I didn’t really feel like writing anything insightful so I thought I’d touch on the Google earnings quickly and then get back to working on my bot. So…yeah.

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that it’s important to keep an eye on world economic and financial news so that you can gauge future advertising spending, and you should also keep an eye on Google corporate earnings news for much the same reason. So by reading this article, you’ve done that. Way to go!

And in the mean time…keep on building!
